Castlewood Business Park

||
DATE: 31st August 2007

Work is under way to establish a massive new Business Park next to Junction 28 of the M1, which when complete will be even bigger than the existing Sherwood Business Park at Junction 27.

Castlewood Business Park is being built on a site which wraps round the well-established East Midlands Designer Shopping Outlet on the southern side of the A38. When complete, it will provide more than 2.6 million feet of square feet of space, and with a maximum unit size of 750,000 sq ft is likely to attract large-scale regional or national clients.

The site covers 112 hectares of land that stretches from Pinxton Lane near the Common Road Industrial Estate, Huthwaite to Junction 28 itself and is being built by Wilson Bowden Developments and marketed by Fisher Hargreaves Proctor.

Ashfield District Council, along with Bolsover District Council has played a significant part in working alongside Wilson Bowden Developments to help bring forward the site for development.

Cllr Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield District Council said the site would play a large part in the continued regeneration of the District by bringing in new, quality employment for local people.

"Castlewood Business Park will build on the success of Sherwood Business Park by bringing forward another quality environment to enable businesses to locate in Ashfield," he said. "The Council recognises the importance to inward investment of complementing growing local businesses by actively marketing the area to potential investors."

He added that Ashfield District Council had the vision to see the land near Junction 28 of the M1 as a key future employment site, and as such allocated the land for employment uses back in 2002.

Wilson Bowden Developments development director Neil Hartley said:

"Junction 28 is probably one of the most significant success stories within the former East Midlands coalfield areas as it has emerged as a significant distribution location of regional and national significance. The availability of skilled labour, which traditionally worked in the coal mining, engineering and textile industries, and its excellent accessibility in the heart of the UK are the contributing factors which have seen substantial inward investment for the likes of UDG UniChem, Diversey Lever, Quinn Plastics and Homecraft."

The site, when finished, will be larger that Sherwood Business Park at Junction 27 of the M1 which currently employs more than 4,000 people and with a number of established office court-style schemes nearby, it is also likely to feature a prominent office establishment as well as distribution and industrial sites.
