Financial Relief for Flood Victims

||
DATE: 20th August 2007

Ashfield District Council is to give £400 to each of the households badly damaged in the recent floods.

++ UPDATE - 6th September 2007 ++

Please note the closing date for claims has now passed.

A total of 41 property owners have been identified as having suffered significant flood damage in the District.

The Government awarded Ashfield District Council the sum of £23,000 from their flood relief fund, and it is this money which is being paid to the eligible householders.

The payments so far total £16,400, which will be paid to the householders who have already come forward. The rest of the money will cover any additional claims we may receive and may be used by the Council for further flood relief works.

Leader of the Council, Cllr. Jason Zadrozny, said: “While I am pleased the Council is able to make these payments, I also realize that they can in no way cover the various and extensive losses suffered by so many of the people affected.

'I do hope that the money will go some way in enabling people to meet immediate costs which must have arisen'.
