Play Equipment Inspired by Extreme Sports at Titchfield Park

||
Titchfield Park
DATE: 10th August 2007

Dynamic new equipment aimed at older children has been installed in Titchfield Park, Hucknall.

The aim is to widen the appeal of the existing youth area and help reduce anti social behaviour in the surrounding area. Three key pieces of innovative equipment, inspired by extreme sports, have been added to the already existing popular skate park.

The equipment is designed to provide more challenging play opportunities as well as encouraging fitness. Each piece of equipment offers information like levels of cardiac and muscle stimulation achieved while using the equipment. The equipment promotes a healthy lifestyle to young people in a fun and interactive way.

Councillor Jason Zadrozny, Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Community and Economic Promotion commented:

'Titchfield Park is the first park in Ashfield where we have installed this new, innovative and futuristic play equipment for older children. Several key sites in Ashfield have been identified in the recent Play Strategy for development and Titchfield is one of them.'

'The Play Strategy also identified a strong demand for facilities and activities for older children. Providing facilities for young people will help reduce anti social behaviour and promote a healthier lifestyle. If this project is successful, similar areas can be developed elsewhere in the district.'

Park and Open Spaces improvements across the whole of Ashfield are set to continue including the redevelopment of the children’s playground areas following a success bid for Big Lottery funding of £284,000. The project was the result of a number of different consultations with parents and young people including the Hucknall Youth Support Services. Further works are planned, including the installation of a ball court for five-a-side football and basketball.
