Ashfield Youth Games a Roaring Success

The East Midlands Airport Nottinghamshire Youth Games took place in Ashfield for the first time ever this Saturday.

Over 1000 children from Districts around the County took part in the Opening Ceremony at Ashfield School before taking part in 14 different sporting activities.

The Ashfield Squad marched out at the front of the Parade led by the Beeston Pipe Band and ‘Brocky Broccolli’, the Ashfield Mascot who promoted Healthy Lifestyles to participants and spectators by handing out free fruit provided by the Co-Op and ‘Brocky Broccolli’ water bottles.

The Opening Ceremony, led by Mark Dennison from Trent FM, welcomed all seven Districts and Special Guests Chris Kamara (Ex England footballer and Sky Sports presenter) and Chris Hoy (Olympic Gold Medal cyclist) both of whom stayed at the event throughout the day.

Carol Hallam, Ashfield District Council’s Sports Development Officer commented, ‘It was very exciting for Ashfield to stage the Games. I would like to thank all partners involved in organising the event over the past year and well done to everyone who took part.’

Ashfield’s Squads had another successful year with Goalball winning Gold at the inclusive event, Silvers went to boccia, girls cricket, girls football, gymnastics, boys hockey and girls tag rugby and bronze to netball, badminton and girls hockey.
