Salad Days for Ashfield Show!

||
Date: 19th June 2007

Rob Foster, the Radio Mansfield gardener, has teamed up with Ashfield District Council to help give away free seed packets which are part of the promotion for the Flower and Vegetable section of the Ashfield Show, which takes place on Saturday, 11th August, 2007.

The seed packets contain a mixed salad selection containing Pak Choi, Rocket, Mizuna, Cima de Rapa and Mibuna, which is an innovative blend of oriental flavours that can be used in salads or stir-fries.

Rob will be contacting primary schools in Ashfield with a view to visiting them to distribute seed packets and talk to children about planting and growing the salad leaves.

Organisers of the Ashfield Show are hoping that the free seed packets will encourage local people to think about growing their own food starting with the salad leaves.

The seed packets also jointly promote healthy lifestyles within Ashfield Leisure Centres and the Recycling Department.

The free seed packets will be available from Ashfield District Council offices and leisure centres throughout the district from the beginning of July.

When picking up your free seeds, why not ask for a Flower and Vegetable Show schedule and enter some of your home grown produce? Rob will be on hand at the Ashfield Show with John Stirland, the BBC Radio Gardener with demonstrations and garden questions time sessions as well as food demonstrations using the grown salad leaves.

If you want further information, please contact Ashfield District Council on 01623 450000.
