Ashfield District Council given ‘good’ rating by independent watchdog
||Ashfield District Council is not only ‘good’ according to a new report released today by the independent Audit Commission but it’s work is improving the quality of life for the people of Ashfield.
The Council’s comprehensive performance assessment (CPA) rating increased from its earlier ‘fair’ score
to a ‘good’ score with only 4 points off an ‘excellent’ rating.
Leader of the Council, Jason Zadrozny commented on the report as follows;
“Ashfield District Council’s strengths are clearly highlighted in this report. We have a clear ambition for improving
the quality of life for everyone in Ashfield.”
“The council with its partners are now investing in local economic development to positively regenerate Ashfield as
a vibrant attractive location for businesses to operate and invest in.”
“The foundations are here, we now have the needs of the local communites clearly identified and the resources planned
so the council can work towards and build a better Ashfield for all.”
“The council has areas where it needs to improve, we recognise that. The new administration here is committed to making
those improvements and making sure we reach our goal of further improving our council to achieve excellence.”
Areas for improvement identified within the report include;
- More needs to be done to help local people feel safer in the community.
- Services need to be more responsive to local people by improving its approaches to diversity.
“This is an excellent result for the council. It is the reward for several years of hard work to improve Ashfield and the services we provide. But we recognise the hard work is not finished we know we have areas of performance to improve and a proactive action plan to address these areas is in progress. It is always the Council’s ambition to continue to improve.”
