On October 2nd 2007 Post Office Ltd released plans to close 30 of 156 existing Post Offices in Nottinghamshire (excluding the City Council area). These plans are part of an 18 month programme which aims to close 2,500 post office branches across the network.

The Post Offices for proposed closure in Ashfield are:
- Annesley Rd, 101 Annesley Rd, Hucknall
- Westville, The Wyvern Centre, Watnall Rd, Hucknall
- Carnarvan Grove, 240 Huthwaite Rd, Sutton in Ashfield
- Forest Side, 261 Mansfield Rd, Sutton in Ashfield
Ashfield District Council is in the process of drafting a formal response on the closures which should be available in the near future.
