Selston Living History Project (Selstonia)
||A living history project which will record the past and living history of Selston was discussed at a meeting of Ashfield District Council’s cabinet on Wednesday evening (10.10.07).
Led by the Rural Partnership Group/Forum, the Selston Living History Project (Selstonia) involves recording past and living history from residents in the Parish of Selston over a three year period.
The project will include art based performances, radio plays and broadcasts, events for the collection of materials, production of theme based leaflets and will use local volunteer skills including for instance, the local writers group.
The culmination of the project will be an outdoor multimedia event that brings all aspects of the project. The resulting archive material will be made available at several sites and in several media formats.
Mr. Andrew Smith, Head of Community and Economic Promotion commented:
“The Selstonia project is well supported by local schools and existing community groups. The Heritage Lottery fund (HLF) has confirmed funding for the project of £270,000.
“It is intended to provide a focus for the local community and provide opportunities for volunteers, including young people, to participate in the project and learn new skills,” he said.
In order to progress the project, the Cabinet agreed to host two staff members, funded via the Heritage Lottery Fund, for the Selston Living History Project (Selstonia); to act as accountable body for the project for its duration and to enter into a formal partnership agreement with the community group.
