Youth Games Orienteering at Brierley Forest

||
Date: 10th October 2007

Around 50 youngsters from across Nottinghamshire took part in the recent East Midlands Airport Nottinghamshire Youth Games 2007 Orienteering Competition at Brierley Forest Park, Sutton in Ashfield.

Participants from Orchard Primary School, Kirkby-in-Ashfield represented Ashfield after winning a district competition earlier in the year. They finished third on the day, behind Newark and Sherwood and the overall winners, Rushcliffe.

After the competition, spectators and competitors were encouraged to have a go at orienteering on a family fun course. All participants were then presented with certificates and mementoes by the Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council and the Vice Chairman of Ashfield District Council.

Pauline Olivant, Regional Development Officer for Orienteering commented:

“The youngsters really enjoyed the orienteering experience and it was a bonus to see so many parents having a go as well. Orienteering is one sport that all the family can take part in and enjoy together.”
