Ashfield Civic Service

Ashfield’s annual Civic Service was held at St Mary Magdalene Church, Hucknall on Sunday (9th September, 2007).

The Service was hosted by the Chairman of Ashfield District Council, Councillor Harry Toseland, and the Reverend Linda Church officiated over the service.

Children from the Junior Church sang “Our God is a Great Big God” during the service before going into their classes.

Readings were by the Chief Executive of Ashfield District Council, Mr. Alan Mellor and the Chairman of the Council, Councillor Toseland.

Attending the Service were Civic Heads from all of Nottinghamshire, including the High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire, Commander Peter Moore and Mrs. J. Moore; the Sheriff of Nottingham, Councillor Jeannie Packer and Consort Mr. N. Packer; and the Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor John Allin and his Lady Mrs. M. Allin.

The Offertory taken during the service was divided between the Chairman’s two charities, The Stroke Association and Arthritis Research Campaign and St Mary Magdalene Church.
