Lighten the Load

||
DATE: 10th September 2007

An awareness raising competition based on the theme of the European Week of Safety and Health at Work – “Lighten the Load” – has been won by Mr. K Strange of Ripley.

Ashfield District Council officers held the competition at the Ashfield Show to highlight the campaign which focuses on musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) - the most common work-related problem in Europe.

Since 2005 17.5% of work related accident reports in Ashfield relate to MSDs.

MSDs cover a broad range of health problems. The main groups are back pain/injuries and work-related upper limb disorders, commonly known as ‘repetitive strain injuries’, but lower limbs can also be affected.

The officers put on an informative display and the competition to win a trolley, which was donated by local company, Cromwell Tools of Kirkby Folly Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Mr Strange is pictured receiving his prize by Environmental Health Officer, Cathy Rowlston.
