First Squads Selected for Youth Games 2008
||A total of 85 youngsters took part in a recent Boccia Competition at the Festival Hall, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, to select teams to represent Ashfield in the 2008 East Midlands Nottinghamshire Youth Games.
In the primary age group the final was contested by St Mary’s and Holly Hill while in the secondary age group a close final encounter saw a 2 -1 win for Selston Arts and Community College against Sutton Centre.
St Mary’s, Selston ACC and Bracken Hill Schools were selected to represent Ashfield in the Youth Games Finals in July.
Carol Hallam, Ashfield District Council’s Sport Development Officer said: “Boccia is a great inclusive sport for young people to get involved in and the Youth Games is an opportunity for our winning competitors to take part in an ‘Olympic’ type event.
“We may even produce another world Champion to follow in the footsteps of Sutton’s Kayleigh Black, who began playing Boccia in the Youth Games.”
