Helping Kids to fight the flab and get fit

||
Date: 14th April, 2008.

An innovative new programme which helps overweight children get fit and healthy is about to be launched in Ashfield.

Using novel techniques such as cheerleading, using martial fitness and even circus skills, the MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition…Do It) programme which is funded by Sainsbury’s is completely free of charge and starts on Monday, 12th May at Kirkby’s Festival Hall.

Aimed at tackling obesity in youngsters aged between seven and thirteen, MEND is a fun programme for youngsters and their carers/parents to attend.

There will be activities twice a week including skipping, hula hooping and space hopper races to improve the youngsters’ fitness, physical activity levels and self-esteem.

The children will also be encouraged to eat healthily and will be given fruit and vegetable tastings, easy recipe ideas, a cookery evening and plenty of fun games and activities.

Places on the course are limited – if you are interested in attending, please contact Craig Simpson on 01623 457233 or the Festival Hall on 01623 457101.
