Volunteers Action on Selston Hills

||
Date: 14th August, 2008.

Holly Hills in Selston has been the focus of volunteer action over the past few weeks as members of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) helped to clear bracken from the site.

The Hills contain pockets of rare acid grassland and the bracken clearance is the latest in the programme of work aimed at restoring this valuable habitat for both.

Volunteers traveled from across the Nottingham area and included users of the NORSACA day centre in Sherwood, which provides support for people with autism.

Work also included repairing damaged steps and uncovering overgrown paths to improve accessibility.

Future plans include signage to educate the public and seeding to encourage the restoration.

More work will take place in September. To get involved, contact Ian ward at BTCV on 0115 9313316.

For more information about the project please contact Andrew Hinchley at Ashfield District Council on 01623 450000.
