M1 Widening – Start of Traffic Restrictions

||
Date: 24th January 2008.

From Sunday 27th January, 2008 a 50mph limit will be imposed on the southbound section of the M1 from Junction 27 (Annesley) to Junction 26 (Nuthall).

Traffic will be confined to three narrow lanes, with no hard shoulder.

Similar restrictions will be imposed on the northbound section between Junction 26 and Junction 27 from February 16th.

These restrictions are necessary to allow enough room to widen the motorway and will be in place until autumn of this year.

Three lanes will be maintained in each direction between 6am and 8pm daily, in a bid to keep motorway traffic on the M1 and avoid it diverting to less suitable roads.

A free recovery service was introduced on January 23rd which will cover both northbound and southbound carriageways from Junction 25 at Sandiacre to Junction 28 at Pinxton. This will be coordinated by a 24 hour control centre to minimise any delays caused by broken down vehicles.

Any queries regarding this or any aspect of the M1 widening should be directed to 0845 6025231.
