Ashfield ‘Turns-on’ to Climate Change

||
Date: 18th June, 2008

At the climate change event in front of the Council Offices in Kirkby on Friday 6th June, literally hundreds of people turned out to pledge to reduce their personal carbon footprints.

At the forefront of visitors to the event were year 5 pupils from Kirkby’s Orchard Primary School.

The children, who walked to the event, were provided with talks on climate change, recycling and solar energy, by local experts in partnership with the energy company E-on.

Council Leader, Jason Zadrozny, who actively supported this event said:

“As a Council, we are taking a lead on climate change and it is great to see so many enthusiastic children wanting to learn how they can make a difference”.

Residents taking part in a survey at the event strongly endorsed the Council supporting all areas of Ashfield’s communities to reduce their impact on the climate.

The central focus of the event was the Climate Change Bus which provided practical advice on how to cut energy bills and the types of financial assistance available to residents of Ashfield.

If you would like to visit the Climate Change Bus, it will be at Ashfield Show on 9th August on the Lawn Pleasure Ground in Sutton along with the Carbon Gym and other exciting interactive activities that will help everyone to understand how they can reduce their carbon footprint.
