Dame Kelly Holmes was joined by hundreds of fans as she officially opened Ashfield's new Lammas Leisure Centre in Sutton-in-Ashfield on Saturday.

The double Olympic champion cut the ribbon alongside Chairman of the Council, Cllr. Mrs May Barsby and Council Leader, Cllr. Jason Zadrozny.

As she toured the magnificent facility Dame Kelly chatted with fans, signed autographs and posed for photographs.

"I’m really impressed by what I have seen in this fantastic facility – there really is something for everyone, she said."

"This centre will really inspire people take up sport and I hope the public really makes the most of what they have on their doorstep”.

The state-of-the-art centre took around 18-months to complete and boasts a 25m-lane swimming pool, learner pool, two squash courts, a four-court badminton hall, a bowls hall and a fitness suite.

The complex also includes a high-quality ice rink which will be the new home for the expanding Sutton Sting ice hockey club.
