Play Matters in Sutton
||Local children and residents recently enjoyed two afternoons of fun and games on Brierley Forest Park put on by the Huthwaite Community Action Group.
Children were also given the opportunity to make models of play equipment they would like to see and design their own playground to help Ashfield District Council develop proposals for new play facilities on the park. A range of modular play kit was also available allowing children to create their own playground for the afternoon, working together to make temporary structures. The equipment had been kindly lent to the Ashfield Play Partnership by play equipment manufacturers, Sutcliffe Play.
Meanwhile, parents and residents were able to relax on inflatable chairs and sofas and share their ideas and thoughts on the project with staff from Ashfield District Council.
£46,000 has been allocated to the site by Ashfield District Council, through local housing developer contributions to
open space and the Playbuilder Fund. The project aims to improve the existing play facilities at the park, as identified
in the Play Partnership’s Strategy, “Play Matters in Ashfield”. The recent event will help to ensure that the project meets
the needs of local children and teenagers.
The event was part of a series of play events and projects across the district this summer, coordinated by Ashfield Play
Partnership. Other projects in Sutton include the play area of Springwood View Close and Meden Bank Park for which outline
proposals will now be drawn up by Ashfield District Council before further consultation on the scheme. Projects in Kirkby
include West Park BMX Track where the scheme underwent final consultation and will be installed over the coming months.
