Inclusive Open Day at Lammas Leisure Centre

||
Date: 24th April 2009

Lammas Leisure Centre in Sutton in Ashfield opened in November last year and was recently accredited as the first facility in the East Midlands Region to achieve Registration as an Inclusive Fitness Initiative site.

The Inclusive Fitness Initiative is a nationally recognised scheme supported by Sport England to ensure that fitness facilities are accessible to all disabled and able bodied users alike.

To celebrate and introduce the facilities Ashfield District Council and Everyone Active will jointly host an Open Day on Saturday 16th May 10am - 2pm. The event is for people with a disability and their families and careers to experience the activities on offer.

There will be introductory sessions available throughout the day in the gym where qualified instructors will lead people through the range of fully accessible equipment, advising on its uses and benefits and there is an opportunity to win a 3 month pass for unlimited use of the facilities for one lucky person and carer to use together.

Also during the day there will be have-a-go seated exercise sessions with elements of Tai Chi and also Boccia, an inclusive seated game similar to bowls suitable for all ages and abilities.

Plus from 11am - 12md there will be an opportunity to experience ice skating and if numbers permit wheelchairs can be taken onto the ice or you may be able to use a sled. You choose the activity, we can provide the skate boots and helmets. Carers must go on the ice too. To round off a fabulous day of activity at 1pm the Main swimming pool will be available for public swim, experienced staff will be on pool side and there are steps and hoists to aid you. Just bring your swimming costume and a towel and we will do the rest.

Come along and join us and find out how you can make physical activity an everyday part of your life.

For further details contact Richard Chatwin at Lammas Leisure Centre on 01623 511177 or Joy Elmer at Ashfield District Council on 01623 457309.
