The Big Draw In Ashfield

||
Date: 18th December 2009

The Big Draw - A Vision For Ashfield

What is the Big Draw all about? It is a national drawing campaign focussed on encouraging all members of the community to develop their drawing skills and in so doing learn to observe their environment with fresh eyes. It also helps to develop communication skills across cultural and generational divides.

This year's Ashfield event, organised by Ashfield District Council Arts development took place at the Ashfield Women's Centre and was attended by people of all ages and backgrounds. It took as its theme "A Vision of Ashfield" with the workshop members using a series of photographs taken from all over the District as their starting points.

It was particularly encouraging to see older, more experienced artists acting as mentors and helping the younger ones develop their skills.

Jonathan Annable, the local artist and event tutor, remarked on the high quality of the work and how the young people had gained in confidence during the day by 'having a go' at what was to some a new experience.

An exhibition of the work from the event is currently on show in the foyer at Ashfield District Council offices, Kirkby-in-Ashfield until the end of the year.
