Ashfield Festival of Sport is a World Record Breaker!
||Around three and a half thousand people flocked to Ashfield District Council's Festival of Sport Gala Day at Titchfield Park, Hucknall on Sunday to meet the stars, taste the sport and, hopefully, witness a new Guinness World Record.
John Farnworth, Freestyle Footballer, opened the Launch of the Active Ashfield Website with a tantalising display of football skills and after the launch of the website made the attempt to break the Official Guinness World Record of 188 football rolls across the forehead. The mesmerised crowd were not disappointed and clapped as he moved past the target and just kept rolling and rolling! The final number of rolls announced by the Official Guinness World Record Adjudicator, Carl Saville, was a staggering 553!!
Before the launch an interview took place with Ashfield's Paralympic Gold and Bronze medallist Sam Hynd and the crowd relived Sam's golden moment on the big screen, once again to a rousing reception.
Nottingham Rugby Club's Sam Raven, who is hoping to make his 100th League appearance for the club this season, was also in attendance.
The launch of www.activeashfield.co.uk sees the introduction of a website that will provide a hive of information and news items from partners who deliver sport and physical activity in Ashfield. It also provides a brand new interactive 'Brocky and Peggy' game.
Phil Beniston, Kirkby-in-Ashfield's World Champion Powerlifter and Denni Pedley, an Engand Under 16 Basketball player from Hucknall, were both presented with Ashfield District Council Gold Cards. Jean Baker, England International in Lawn Bowls, from Huthwaite Park Bowls Club was also presented with a Gold Card and a specially framed certificate recognising her achievements on the World Bowls Circuit. The Bowls Club were also presented with an Active Ashfield Club Accreditation Gold Award.
A charity football match saw the Media Team putting one over on the professional O.A.S.I.S. Allstars side with a 4 – 2 victory and a Man of the Match award to Brocky Broccoli, the Active Ashfield Mascot goalkeeper.
