Fly The Flag For The Armed Forces

||
Date: 25th June 2009

The first ever Fly the Flag for the Armed Forces ceremony was a great success.

Ashfield residents lined the streets of Kirkby on Monday to show support for existing and veteran armed forces personnel.

A parade led by Councillor Mrs. May Barsby and Chelsea Pensioner Jim Hughes began at the Nag’s Head and finished at Ashfield District Council Office.

After the parade a Flag raising ceremony was held, Councillor Mrs. May Barsby welcomed every one and Canon Linda Church read a poem and said a prayer.  The Flag was raised by Mr. Jim Hughes while Robert Smith played Reveille on a military bugle.

Refreshments were served after the ceremony in the Festival Hall.
