Ambitious In Ashfield

||
Youngsters from every secondary school in Ashfield recently enjoyed an 'Enterprising Day' organised by Ashfield District Council in partnership with West Notts College, New College Nottingham, Notts Education Business Alliance and Connexions.

This was the fifth Enterprise Day and has built on year by year success.

Over 1,000 young people attended the event which was aimed at stimulating a culture of enterprise by providing an insight into a range of business sectors, career opportunities and becoming an entrepreneur. The youngsters were able to gather information, ask questions, see presentations, get involved with practical activities and receive advice from the experts.

Organisations such as OneClick Technologies Ltd, Tomlinsons, Ashfield Homes, East Midlands Airport, the Armed Forces, Nottinghamshire Police and NBV were all available to offer advice around entering the various sectors of industry. West Notts College, New College Nottingham and Connexions provided advice and guidance on the vast range of further education courses, training and career routes.

Local entrepreneurs including Forever Young Phototgraphy, Tineke Floral Designs and C8ter were on hand to inspire the youngsters by ‘telling their story’ and related experiences through creative and artistic means by getting the students involved with hands on activity.

Cllr Tony Theaker said,

"The Ambitious in Ashfield event continues to provide the opportunity for our young people to view the support and options that are available to them whether they wish to pursue further education options or begin their working life, both as an employee or attempting to create their own business. There is a wide range of support and choice out there and this Council run event is our commitment to providing our own support and advice to help our children aspire in life to bigger and better things. I look forward to seeing this event becoming bigger and better in future years also."

In connection with the Enterprise Day, three Ashfield schools recently took part in this year’s enterprise challenge which gave the students an opportunity to exhibit and sell their art work in the Idlewells shopping centre in Sutton over two days in March. The students’ art pieces attracted a good deal of interest from passing shoppers which resulted in sales of over £120. It demonstrated an extremely high level of talent from our local young people. Quarrydale and Ashfield School picked up the winning prizes from the sponsors City & Guilds and CCM Print Management which were presented at the Ambitious in Ashfield event on 12th March.
