Coxmoor Clean Up Yields Tonnes of Waste
||Around ten tonnes of waste were collected during a spring clean event which took place on the streets of Kirkby's Coxmoor Estate.
Ashfield District Council’s Environmental Services and Neighbourhood Enforcement Teams worked with Ashfield Homes Ltd. To organise the event to assist residents in clearing unwanted items from their homes while also undertaking environmental improvements in the area.
More than 50% of the households notified of the event took part, with 120 properties placing items out for collection.
Among the items collected were 27 items of furniture, seven fridges and 18 TVs and items of stereo equipment.
A massive 219 bags of household waste were collected along with a further 74 bags of garden waste. Meanwhile, the Council’s Environmental Services team worked to improve local open spaces by removing litter and graffiti and cutting the grass.
Commenting on the clean up, Edd de Coverly, Ashfield District Council’s Head of Neighbourhood Services said he was delighted with residents’ hugely positive response to the event.
“This has been a very successful event which has had several positive outcomes. We have been able to co-ordinate our services to significantly improve the quality of the environment in the area, while also helping to reduce the potential for fly-tipping and the threat of vermin."
“It has also reduced the potential for residents to be exploited by rogue traders who charge for removing waste and then go on to dump it elsewhere.”
Following the success of the spring cleans in Coxmoor, the Council is looking to carry out similar “spring cleans” in other parts of the district.
