Community Planting Event
||Community planting event, 21st November 10am - 12 noon, Southwell Close, Kirkby in Ashfield.
Ashfield District Council has been working with local housing association Derwent Living to transform an existing grassed area into a new recreational space, forming an extension to West Park, Kirkby in Ashfield.
Works to date have included the creation of a new walking route across an existing mound to open up views, securing the site with decorative fencing and tree planting.
The project is part of an ongoing programme of works undertaken by Derwent Living to improve the housing estate and an ongoing programme by Ashfield District Council to upgrade green spaces in the area. A multi-use games area and BMX track have been installed on West Park this year to increase the range of activities available for children and young people.
Native trees and bulbs are being planted at a community planting event on 21st November to improve wildlife habitat and provide a colourful display in the spring.
The scheme has been funded by £27,000 provided by Nottinghamshire County Councils Building Better Communities Fund.
