Dog Fouling Resident Fined

||
Date: 16th November 2009

A Hucknall resident who ignored an Ashfield District Council order to clean up dog faeces in his garden, was fined £350.00, ordered to pay costs of £587.50 and a £15 victim surcharge, when his case was heard by Nottingham Magistrates on Monday (9th November).

Ken Varley, of Hazel Grove, Hucknall, was originally served with a notice in March, ordering him to remove dog faeces from his garden and to prevent any further accumulation. When he did not respond to the notice, Ashfield District Council officers turned to the Courts and achieved a successful prosecution over a breach of the notice.

Commenting on the Court’s verdict and Mr Varley’s total bill of £952.50, a Council spokesperson said:

“This prosecution sends out a clear message about our commitment to pursue anyone who does not demonstrate responsible dog ownership and clear up after their pet, whether that is in a public place or on their own land. In addition to the anti-social element of not clearing up dog faeces there is also a serious health issue, and we will continue to refer matters to the courts whenever we feel necessary.”

Anyone who would like to report a dog fouling problem should contact Ashfield District Council on its 01623 457284.
