Tonnes of Waste Collected in Big Clean Up
||A total of eight tonnes of unwanted furniture, waste and rubbish were collected during a 'Big Clean Up' event which took place on the streets of Hucknall's Ruffs Estate last week.
Teams from across Ashfield District Council and Ashfield Homes Ltd. worked together to organise
and carry out the event, where residents were invited to leave out unwanted bulky items for collection backed up with a massive
clean up of the streets and public spaces.
The initiative was carried out as part of a 'Week of Action' which was taking place in the area.
Among the items removed during the clean up were a massive total of 135 bags of household waste, 16 sofas, six carpets and 32 items of furniture. In addition, 700kg of waste was collected by sweeper vehicles.
Commenting on the clean up, Edd de Coverly, Ashfield District Council's Head of Neighbourhood Services said he was delighted with residents' hugely positive response to the event.
'This has been a very successful event which has had several positive outcomes. It has helped reduce fly-tipping, litter and the threat of vermin in the area. All the items collected during this spring clean will be disposed of correctly'.
