Free Lifestyle Programme For Hucknall Youngsters

||
Date: 14th September 2009

Families in Hucknall are being offered a chance to sign up to a FREE healthy lifestyle programme that takes place at the Lammas Leisure Centre, starting on Monday 5th October 2009.

The 10-week MEND programme consists of two two-hour sessions each week and covers nutrition subjects such as fats and sugars and offers regular physical activity sessions including fun games and swimming.

Healthy KidsThe programme, a partnership between Ashfield District Council and SLM leisure centres, is aimed at children aged between 7 and 13 and is ideal for parents who are concerned about their childrens' weight and want to make healthier lifestyle choices.

It is well recognised by health professionals that overweight and obesity in childhood can cause health problems later in life, such as heart disease and diabetes. This type of programme can help children grow into a healthier weight and reduce the risk of health problems in later life.

The programme, which normally costs £400 per place, is being offered FREE as part of a national drive to help people make healthier changes for life. It takes place on a Monday and Friday evenings between 5-7pm.

For more information about the MEND programme, or to book a place on the next course, contact Craig Simpson, Physical Activity Officer, on 01623 457233 or book a place online at www.mendprogramme.org
