Government Grants To Keep Homes Cosy

||
Date: 14th September 2009

Ashfield District Council has welcomed the news that the Government has recently raised levels of grant funding available to applicants of the Warm Front scheme – a programme designed to improve the living conditions of vulnerable people living in cold damp, energy inefficient properties.

The changes mean an increase in grants for some of Ashfield’s most vulnerable residents from £2700 to £3500 for gas central heating and from £4000 to £6000 for oil based systems.

To benefit from the Warm Front scheme residents must either own their home or live in privately rented accommodation and must be in receipt of a qualifying benefit.

The Warm Front scheme could contribute towards the cost of repairing an existing heating system or installing a new one as well as providing insulation measures including loft, cavity wall insulation and draught proofing.

To date, Warm Front have helped 2180 people in Ashfield make their homes warmer which amounts to grant assistance totalling over £1 million over the last year alone.
