Ashfield Inspired By 2012

||
Ashfield District Council has been granted the Inspire Mark, the badge of the London 2012 Inspire Programme.

The London 2012 Inspire programme recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Active Ashfield Games will take place on 3rd July 2010. It will begin with an Opening Ceremony at Ashfield School and will see teams from Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Hucknall and Selston competing in various sports and activities, including netball, hockey,  gymnastics, bowls and rugby for juniors, boccia for adults with disabilities, workplace five a side football and ‘It’s a Knockout’ competitions.

The Games is aimed at introducing new people to targeted activities and age groups and encouraging them to continue participating beyond. It is hoped that the games will be an annual event, up to, and beyond 2012 creating a legacy for the people of Ashfield.

Seb Coe, Chair, London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games said:

“The Inspire programme is ensuring the legacy of the 2012 Games starts now as projects like the Active Ashfield Games are enabling people in Ashfield to make positive life changes.”

Carol Hallam, Sports Development Officer for Ashfield District Council said:

“This is an exciting opportunity to encourage the people of Ashfield to get more active and is just one part of Active Ashfield’s pledge to enable our communities to feel a part of 2012 and to benefit from the legacy it will leave behind.”
