Local School Kids Take Action Against Dog Fouling
||Children at Bagthorpe Primary School have made a stand against dog fouling by designing posters that have been made into metal street signs.
Ashfield District Council has been working with the school for almost two years on various environmental
initiatives including arranging activities for the children such as litter-picks, dog fouling surveys and bringing in road
sweepers and machinery.
The children saw dog fouling as a major issue in the area whilst on one of the activity days and the idea came about for them to design their own posters which could be made into Council signs and placed around the school.
The class set about designing posters and finally five were chosen from: Georgia Elliott, Georgia Zadins, Katie Morris, Caroline Millan and Mia Sharpe. The pupils were presented with their designs which have been made into signs and placed around the school by the Council.
Trevor Middleton, Ashfield District Council said,
“It is very encouraging to see the children take a genuine interest in the local environment. The Council continues in its efforts to respond to requests to remove the fouling, however, the need for dog walkers to pick up and dispose of their pet's waste responsibly is important in keeping the area clean and tidy.”
