Hucknall's adiZone Set For Action!

||
Date: 25th August 2010

A new outdoor fitness area for Hucknall is nearing completion and is set for an official opening on Monday 13th September.

The adiZone is an innovative multi-sports facility designed to help get more young people and families into sport and physical activity, as part of the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It features outdoor gym equipment, a kickwall, a traversing climbing wall and a dance area.

The official opening ceremony takes place on Monday 13th September at 1pm, involving a number of local schools and organisations. The opening will feature sports demonstrations and chances to get involved, as well as a sporting champion (to be confirmed).

The adiZone will complement the facilities at the neighbouring Hucknall Leisure Centre and will be available free to use for individuals, clubs, schools, the youth service and community training sessions and events.

Ashfield District Council was successful in bidding for the exclusive adiZone scheme in response to local requests for more active equipment and facilities for young people in the area. This followed the installation of an adiZone at Sutton Lawn, which has proved very popular with local people.

Active Ashfield, Ashfield’s Community Sports Network will take the lead role in the development of activities within the adiZone. The network includes the District and County Councils, NHS, Youth Services, NCC Disability Sport, Police, Fire Service, Ashfield District School Sports Partnership, v-involved Nottingham, Sport Nottinghamshire, West Notts College, Ashfield Links Forum and Surestart.

The adiZone scheme has been supported by funding from government (in partnership with Adidas) along with a Choosing Health grant from the NHS and green space improvement funding through local housing developments.
