||
Date: 3rd August 2010

A ceremony to celebrate the District's award winning parks was held last week at Portland Park, in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

Portland Park is the fifth park in Ashfield to retain its Green Flag Award, making it the District with the most Green Flag Awards for any District/Borough Council in the East Midlands.

It joins Sutton Lawn – Sutton-in-Ashfield, Titchfield Park – Hucknall, Kingsway Park – Kirkby-in-Ashfield, and Brierley Forest Park – Huthwaite to all retain the prestigious award for another year.

Ashfield District Council has been recognised as being one of the best in the UK by securing a finalists place in the Best Parks category of this years prestigious APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Services Awards 2010.

A week of family fun days will be taking place in August at the Parks to celebrate the achievement.

Councillor Warren Nuttall, said: "I am delighted that we have retained our five Green Flags for another year. This is a great achievement and I congratulate all the employees who have been involved in maintaining and developing the Parks, along with the Friends Groups who have been extremely supportive."

Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor John Wilmott added: "This is excellent news for out communities. We now have some of the best parks and open spaces in the area, and I hope people will take up our invitation to come and enjoy them during the events we have planned for ‘Love Your Parks’ week later this month."
