Ashfield Issues First Dog Control Order Penalty
||A Dog Control Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) has been issued by Ashfield District Council, making it the first of its kind in North Nottinghamshire.
The FPN was issued after one of the Council's Community Protection Officers (CPOs) witnessed a man in Hucknall, breaking the newly implemented Dog Control Orders.
The man was walking through the Market Place in Hucknall with three Staffordshire Bull Terriers that were roaming freely without leads. The dogs were a potential danger and a nuisance to others.
When approached by the CPO, who was accompanied by a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), the man reacted aggressively and refused to give his details. After being issued with an FPN, he began to use abusive language towards the CPO and ripped up the notice.
He will now face prosecution for contravening the Dog Control Orders and action concerning his aggressive behaviour will be taken.
Hucknall, is now one of the town centres within the district that has a Dog Control Order in place stating that dogs must be on leads at all times, for the safety and wellbeing of other residents and people using the town centre.
Edd deCoverly, Head of Neighbourhood Services said: "The Council have introduced these measures as a response to residents concerns and allow us to take appropriate action if dog owners are being irresponsible. This case highlights the importance of the orders, which are focussed on; reducing potential health implications associated with dog faeces, promoting responsible dog ownership and reducing the number of complaints related to dog faeces".
