Photographic Competition
||Ashfield District Council launched a photographic competition especially for the younger generation aged between 10-16 years old.
The competition, which was launched from the remains of Sutton's very own windmill on Prospect Place, is entitled 'Capture Sutton's Heritage'.
Several schools are supporting the competition, which is designed to encourage the younger generation to learn more about their local heritage (Sutton-in-Ashfield, Huthwaite, Skegby, Stanton Hill and Teversal) and to give them an interest over the summer months.
Our budding photographers are asked to submit their entries, on photographic paper, by 27th September 2010 by placing them in an envelope and handing them in to one of the following libraries: Huthwaite, Skegby or Sutton. Full details, including entry forms, can be obtained by sending an email to Marg Thorne at margaretthorne@hotmail.com
Prizes will include £50 for first place plus the 'Peters Cup'; second prize £25 and third prize £15.
All entrants
will receive a certificate and entry to this competition is free
We are also aiming to display the entries in an exhibition in the autumn. The Peters Cup will be presented in honour of Captain Roy Peters (deceased) and Mrs Jane Peters for their years of dedication to the research and publishing the local history of Sutton-in-Ashfield and adjoining villages along with their unfailing support of the Sutton heritage Society.
