Family Fun For National Family Week

||
Date: 11th June 2010

The Stanton Hill and Healdswood Area Recreation Project (SHARP) brought family fun to Healdswood Recreation Ground on Friday 4th June.

Over 250 local families came along to the event, part of the National Family Week celebrations which focuses on families spending more quality time together and champions the benefits of a healthy, active and positive family life.

The day was funded by ‘Big’ Lottery and Nottinghamshire Community Foundation with free entertainment throughout the day including crafts, model making, inflatable’s, puppet shows and play and sports activities which provided an exciting and fun time for all.

Ashfield District Council Neighbourhood Services and Community Development staff helped the group raise community awareness around caring for and developing the recreation ground by  organising a community litter pick and weeding of the pathway of  the main entrance to the park (off Mansfield Road, Skegby).

Volunteers, including children and young people, planted 110 flowering and ornamental shrubs and Nottinghamshire Fire Service were on hand to water the plants ensuring that they had every chance of survival on what was a very hot sunny day.

The entrance will soon be further enhanced with the installation of two plinths incorporating mosaics with an Olympic theme from an earlier community event organised by SHARP Group.

If anyone has any comments with regard to the installation of the plinths, please contact Wil Kent at Ashfield District Council 01623 457451 or email w.kent@ashfield-dc.gov.uk
