Help For Victims Of Domestic Violence

||
Date: 8th June 2010

A new coordinator has been appointed by Ashfield District Council to raise awareness of the damaging effects of domestic violence and the impact that it can have on its victims and children around them.

Neil Gray was appointed in April to work across both Ashfield and Mansfield. He is responsible for assisting various organisations in both Districts to work together effectively and aid the reduction of incidents of domestic violence.

Domestic violence is a serious problem and much more common and widespread than many people realise. According to the NSPCC, it accounts for 15% of all cases of reported violent crime. It also reports that one in five women (19%) and one in ten men (10%) reported that they had experienced physical force by a partner or former partner at some time since age 16.

Neil commented “I will be working closely with North Nottinghamshire Integrated Domestic Abuse Services, the Police, housing officers, health service providers and many other organisations in Ashfield and Mansfield to help provide the best possible service to people who experience domestic violence. I hope to be able to make a real difference by working effectively together with these partners and to raise the profile about this type of crime.”

Through raising awareness it is hoped that people will recognise when somebody within their family or community may be suffering from domestic violence and assist in getting them help and support.
