Respect Campaign: Legal Action Taken Against Ashfield Parent

Nottinghamshire Youth Offending Service has become the first in the county to take legal action against an Ashfield parent for not engaging with a Court imposed Parenting Order.

Mansfield Youth Court issued the Parenting Order against the parent of an Ashfield youth convicted of crime and anti-social behaviour. The Order required the parent to engage with the Youth Offending Service (YOS) to work towards preventing future offending by their child.

The parent failed to engage and did not keep a number of statutory appointments which resulted in the YOS taking breach action against them. The parent, who had no previous offending history, received a Police Adult Caution for the offence.

This is the first occasion that enforcement action has been taken against a Nottinghamshire parent and the success has set a benchmark for future actions, along with a warning that parents must accept their responsibilities.
