Washdyke Volunteers Help Youth Area To Take Shape
||Young volunteers have been braving the rain to help create a memorial youth area on Washdyke Recreation Ground with Ashfield District Council.
Despite the rain, the group of young people helped dig holes for the fencing posts which will hold decorative fencing and a kick wall and basketball hoop. The area was initially suggested by local residents at previous consultations on the site, and has been combined with requests for a memorial feature to local teenager Daniel Banks, who died on Washdyke Lane several years ago. Friends of Daniel have designed personal plaques to be installed inside the shelter, as well as posing for colourful silhouettes that will decorate the fencing. |
The youth area is part of a series of improvements planned for the space, which has already included the thinning of woodland areas at residents’ request, and will be followed by the creation of a new play area for younger children.
There are still works to be carried out to the space and the group are planning an opening ceremony for the memorial once the youth area is complete.
