May Day Fun In Ashfield
||The annual Ashfield May Day Festival promises to have something for all of the family this year.
The festival, taking place on Monday 2nd May at Kingsway Park, Hodgkinson Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, gets under way at 10.15am with a samba band parade from the Kirkby Festival Hall into the park.
The fun then continues with traditional Maypole and Morris dancing, various craft activities, community group stalls, circus skills workshops and school music performances.
This year will boast the construction of an innovative piece of community art with festival goers invited to bring along recyclable materials that would usually be thrown away.
The carrier bags, flexible plastics (such as large crisp packets), wrappers, bubble wrap and small yogurt pots etc that are brought along will be combined with sustainable materials to create a giant bird which is to be displayed in the foyer of Ashfield District Council’s Kirkby offices.
