Inspiring Event For Ambitious Students

||
Date: 25th February 2011

A fantastic opportunity for Ashfield pupils to investigate a wide range of career options, and raise their aspirations, will be provided by 'Ambitious in Ashfield' on 10th March at the Festival Hall in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

Now in its seventh year, 'Ambitious in Ashfield' is organised by Ashfield District Council's Economic Regeneration Section, for secondary school students. It is aimed at stimulating a culture of enterprise by providing an insight into a range of business sectors, career opportunities and self-employment activity. More than 1,000 students from all seven secondary schools in Ashfield are expected to attend the one day event.

A wide range of employers – both local and national – will be represented, including Ashfield District Council, RAF, Notts Fire & Rescue Service, Royal Navy, Lloyds TSB, Coleman Bradshaw (accountants), East Midlands Airport, HMRC, Charnwood Training and ASDA.

Local colleges will also be available – providing details on vocational courses, apprenticeships and work-based learning and ‘A’ Levels - to help students plot their future career paths.

This year a ‘Creative Industries Corner’ will be highlighting some of the many careers that can evolve from this growing sector, including drama, dance, art, ceramics, gaming, audio and visual.

Deputy Leader of Ashfield District Council and Portfolio Holder for Economy and Partnerships, Cllr. John Wilmott, said: “This will be the biggest ‘Ambitious in Ashfield’ event to date, and represents a massive commitment from the many organising partners and exhibitors. We are hoping it could prove a very important and exciting event for local students as they start to consider their future careers. If nothing else it will give them an idea of the massive range of opportunities out there.”
