Nest Boxes For Brierley Forest Park

||
Date: 11th February 2011

Nottinghamshire County Council's Local Improvement Scheme has funded the provision of 30 new nest boxes for Brierley Forest Park.

This forms part of a £15,000 grant from the County Council to the park, which has resulted in the creation of a conservation area near the pond, new signage, seats and path works. The work has been organised on site by Ashfield District Council in partnership with the Friends of Brierley Forest Park, for the benefit of local residents and as part of Ashfield District Council's continuing commitment to improving this award winning Green Flag park.

The bird boxes have been made by Enable Housing Association’s JT Project, which gives adults with learning difficulties training and experience in work-type activities.

Councillor Fiona Asbury commented: “Brierley Forest Park is a wonderful asset for this area and I’m delighted that the Local Improvement Scheme has provided funding as so many people benefit from the facilities here. The new signage, seats and pathworks along with the new nest boxes, will all help to attract more people to an area that has some of Nottinghamshire’s most breathtaking scenery.”

The bird boxes have been made as part of National Nest Box Week, which runs from the 14th – 21st February 2011 and is organised by the British Trust for Ornithology.

A photo opportunity has been arranged for 11 am, Wednesday 16th February 2011, at Brierley Forest Park Visitor Centre, off Skegby Road, Huthwaite.
