Nest Boxes For Local Parks
||Local adults with learning difficulties have crafted some beautiful bird boxes for Ashfield's Green Flag award winning parks thanks to a partnership project.
Ashfield District Council teamed up with Enable Housing Association’s JT Project, which gives adults with learning difficulties training and experience in work-type activities.
The bird boxes have been made as part of National Nest Box Week, which runs from the 14th – 21st February 2011 and is organised by the British Trust for Ornithology. The boxes include ones for Blue Tits, Robins and Tawny Owls.
It is intended that the boxes will be installed at Brierley Forest Park, Sutton Lawn and Selston Golf Course, with other parks to follow throughout the year.
The boxes for Sutton Lawn are to be made from kits by pupils from Forest Glade School and their environment club at Sutton Lawn on the 18th February 2011.
Councillor Mick Parker, Chairman of Ashfield District Council, said: “The work is part of Ashfield District Council's continuing commitment to improving parks and open spaces across the District for the benefit of people and wildlife.”
