Nuisance Bike Bust

||
Date: 27th January 2011

A regular Saturday patrol on 22nd January by the Council's Community Protection Officers (CPOs) resulted in trouble for two local people who were illegally driving vehicles in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Ashfield District Council CPOs were conducting their routine patrol when they spotted the first person illegally riding a motorbike through Brierley Forest Park. As the CPO approached the bike, the driver ran away leaving it behind resulting in the CPO calling the police to seize the vehicle.

The second incident occurred on the same day, again in Brierley Forest Park when the CPOs came across a man with a quad bike being ridden on the park.

The CPOs notified the Police who issued a Section 59 notice – which is a warning ticket given to anyone using a vehicle that is causing alarm or distress to members of the public. Once issued, if he is caught illegally riding again, the vehicle will be seized.

Edd de Coverly, Head of Neighbourhood Services commented: “These vehicles are a nuisance and cause problems for people living nearby. By working in partnership with the Police, successful action is being carried out against people who commit anti-social behaviour.”
