Support For Those Who Have Suffered With A Stroke
||People who have had a stroke in Ashfield are being offered support thanks to the Strokeability programme, a Partnership project between Ashfield District Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and NHS Nottinghamshire County.
Strokeability is a 12 week gentle exercise programme specifically designed for people living with stroke. The course also includes guidance on relaxation techniques and advice and information about local support services.
The programme provides an opportunity for people to work towards a healthier lifestyle, meet other people living with stroke and hopefully have some fun.
It will begin in Ashfield on 12th May 2011 and will run every Thursday at 2.30-4.30pm at Festival Hall Leisure Centre.
To be eligible for the course you must have had a diagnosis of a stroke. You must also have completed, or be near to the end of, your rehabilitation programme. If you are allocated a place on the course you will need to provide some brief medical information so that we can make sure the exercises are suitable for you. We will also ask you about any particular communication and/or mobility issues so that we can best meet your needs.
Transport will not be provided for the course so you will need to be able to travel to Kirkby independently. Information will be provided nearer the time regarding public and community transport options. If you need help with moving from a vehicle into the building, and/or help getting around the building you must bring a carer/friend/family member with you.
The course will be led by suitably qualified and experienced leisure instructors. There will be a small charge of £2 per session.
To register an interest in the programme please contact Dianne Holmes, Physical Activity Officer on 01623 457233 or email d.c.holmes@ashfield-dc.gov.uk
