Young And Old Join Forces

||
Date: 21st February 2011

A group of young and elderly residents came together for a day of fun thanks to the Kirkby Senior Forum.

The activity day, held at the Festival Hall included gentle sporting activities where participants could have a go at boccia bowls, table cricket, skittles and some seated exercises.

Elderly members of each forum were joined by some of their young friends from Abbey Hill School and everybody got involved in the activities and enjoyed a buffet lunch together.

The aim of the day was to introduce easy activities that could be enjoyed by a wide age range and encourage attendees to visit sessions in the wider community.

Participants were split into four teams representing each of Ashfield's Senior Forums and after a close fought contest Kirkby won the District Cup by a very narrow margin.

Melanie Jackson one of the event organisers from Ashfield District Council said: “It was great seeing everyone having a really good time and this is something that we would like to carry forward every year”

If you would like more information on the Senior Forums please contact Melanie on 01623 457092 and gentle sporting activities ask for Sports Development on 01623 450000.
