Aim Higher In Ashfield
||A local student from Hucknall recently gained his ideal job thanks to the Ashfield Aim Higher Scheme.
The Scheme is managed by the Regeneration Team at Ashfield District Council and part funded by the European Regional Development Fund. Francis Parks of Hucknall, took part in the Aim Higher Scheme whilst studying for a BSc(Hons) degree in Computer Science with Games Technology at Nottingham Trent University. He successfully completed an eight week project with a Kirkby-in-Ashfield business, in the Summer of 2009. The project was to develop a website with online sales for Kingsway Jewellers & Brays China. Francis felt that the Aim Higher Scheme had helped him by putting the skills that he had learned at university into a practical environment. This had also increased his confidence of working in a commercial situation. |
The company were so pleased with his work, that they asked him back for a second placement for the Summer of 2010.
Francis has now completed his studies and is delighted to have been offered a full time position with the parent company, Pellacraft.
Dave Arnold, of Pellacraft, had supervised Francis and commented: “We are delighted to be able to offer Francis a position with the company, following his very successful placement with us and we hope he will prove to be a real asset in the future”.
Frank Horsley, Head of Community and Economic Promotions at Ashfield District Council said: “This positive outcome is a good example of the Ashfield Aim Higher Scheme working to link talented young people with good quality opportunities in local companies for the benefit of the local economy”.
