Stop Hate UK is a 24 hour phone line — 0800 138 1625 — which provides help all day, every day for people affected by hate crime in Nottinghamshire.

The confidential helpline is staffed by highly skilled call takers with real life experience of hate crime, trained to give advice, support and guidance to victims and witnesses.

A hate crime is any form of verbal or physical abuse that is motivated by sexual orientation, gender, disability, religion, ethnicity or a difference in someone’s lifestyle.

The new helpline will help to increase the reporting of hate crimes so that perpetrators are brought to justice. The service also provides a quarterly report to enable partners to identify issues and work together to address them.

Ruth Hyde, the hate crime champion for the Safer Nottinghamshire Board said: “I very much support the Stop Hate UK initiative which I hope will make it simpler and easier for people to report hate crime wherever they live in Nottinghamshire. I hope this helpline will send a clear message to people who may be suffering from this sort of intolerable crime: we are on your side, and we will do our best to support victims and bring perpetrators to justice”.

The helpline is in addition to the Nottinghamshire Police non-emergency number – 0300 300 99 99

To report any incident of hate crime, call the Stop Hate UK helpline on 0800 138 1625.
