Bagthorpe Kids Brighten Up The Bins!
||Children at Bagthorpe Primary School have made a stand against littering by brightening up the bin on the pathway outside of the school.
Ashfield District Council has been working with the school for over two years on various environmental initiatives including arranging activities for the children such as litter-picks, dog fouling surveys and bringing in road sweepers and machinery. The children saw littering as a major issue in the area whilst on one of the activity days and the idea came about for them to paint local bins in fun designs with the support of Ashfield District Council and their teacher Mrs Hammond. The class set about painting their first bin with four bright designs including a pacman scene and the countryside. The pupils were invited to come and see their bin being placed outside the school by the Council. |
Trevor Middleton, Ashfield District Council said “We are always looking for ways of promoting awareness of litter and how it should be correctly disposed of. This litter bin was due for replacement and we thought this was another excellent way of involving the children in helping raise awareness of littering and its effects.
The finished painting really is a credit to them - they and the school should be congratulated in taking a very active and positive interest in their local environment.”
