Retaining Vital Services For Kirkby Town Centre

||
Date: July 11th, 2011

Lengthy negotiations between Ashfield District Council and Post Office Ltd came to fruition last week (July 7th, 2011) when a temporary Post Office opened its doors to the public in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

The Council has been working closely with Post Office Ltd to bring temporary facilities to the town centre following the closure of the former Post Office.

The new Post Office is housed within a purpose made Portacabin within the Kirkby Shopper Car Park, adjacent to Boyes’ Store and offers a complete range of postal services to the local community.

Ashfield District Council has provided the Post Office with the use of the car park free of charge, facilitated a connection to an electrical supply, given permission for BT to install a telegraph pole adjacent to the unit and access to water and toilet facilities for Post Office  employees.

            and Economic Promotion and Mark Armstrong, Town Centres Manager

Negotiations for re-establishing a permanent Post Office within the town are ongoing and Ashfield District Council will continue to support the process.

Leader of the Council, Cllr. John Knight said: “The Post Office provides a vital service for the local community and businesses in the Town Centre.

“I am very pleased that the Council has been instrumental in providing this temporary solution while arrangements for a permanent Post Office within Kirkby-in-Ashfield are being negotiated.”
